Hello First Grade Families! We started our week with a Harvest Hoopla! The children rotated through all of the first grade rooms. They sang fall songs, enjoyed a fall snack, did some pumpkin estimation and read some fall stories. What a fun way to start the week!
Math: We are continuing to work on our subtraction stories. We are also working on addition stories with unknown totals. We are still using the math mountains to help us solve our equations.
Reading: We did some fun fall stories this week. We also read Creature Feature, and then created our own creatures. We are continuing to read about families as well.
Writing: We are working on our small moment stories. We have started working on readable vs. unreadable as well. The children wrote about the creature they created as well.
Science/Social Studies: We are still focusing on families. Please send a picture in if you have not done so yet. We are learning about different types of families and drawing our own families.
Housekeeping Items:
- Please try to read with your child each night. It really makes a difference! I know some of the children want to read all of their books the first night. It is more than okay to re-read books again or to find other books you may have at home.
- Thank you for returning the October Reading Calendars. The children that met the goal will be joining me for lunch bunch! Remember, ANY reading counts! You reading to your child, siblings or other family members reading to your child, your child reading to anyone else.
- Thank you again for attending conferences! It is such a great time to talk about your child’s progress.
- We have a clinical student spending time in our class. Ms. Amanda started Monday and will be with us until the 18th. The children are excited to her what first graders know!
