Hello first grade families! We had a great time getting to know one another today and yesterday. We will continue to work on learning our classroom routines. We enjoyed some “Jitter Juice” yesterday together to help the butterflies in our stomachs go away!
Math: We did some reviewing of the math they worked on in kindergarten. The children are eager to dive into the first grade math curriculum. We did some graphing using with our Jitter Juice activity.
Reading: We reviewed our kindergarten sight words. I was impressed by how many words the children remembered. We also looked for sight words in our Jitter Juice poems.
Writing: We wrote about how we felt on our first day of first grade. We also wrote about one new friend we met.
Science: We took a peek at our caterpillars. We will be watching the process from caterpillar to butterfly over the next few weeks!
Housekeeping Items:- I do not normally send a newsletter on short weeks, but thought it would be good for our first week.
- Thank you for taking the time to fill out the “Getting to Know Your Child” sheets. It definitely helps me know more about what will help your child succeed.

Feel free to comment under the posts! - We started “Name of the Day” today. Each child will have a chance to bring home the share bag (a tote with apples on it). Your child will have a questionnaire to fill out about his/her favorite things. Your child can bring 3 items in the bag that help describe what he/she enjoys. Please return the questionnaire and the bag the very next day!
- We will start our snack calendar on Tuesday. The snack bag is clear with blue flowers. Please remember we are encouraging healthy snacks. Thanks!
Important Dates:
- No school 9/5- Wednesday, 9/7 will be our PBIS kick-off day! The children will be learning the routines and procedures for positive behavior in all areas of the school. This will be a Day 0 so we will not have our normal MAPLs.
